9 Quick Steps to Set Up your Etsy Shop within Minutes

If you are looking forward to building a side hustle or you handmade something and would like to put it up for sale, you must have heard of Etsy. Having an Etsy shop is one of the ways to make money from home. Plus, you save yourself the cost and stress of setting up an in-person store. An Etsy shop is free, and you are able to sell your goods without wasting time.

However, as simple as this might sound, there are steps to follow to setting up an Etsy store. If it’s your first time, it might look confusing and daunting. The goal of this article is to save you such a headache. This article will explore steps to setting up an Etsy shop.

Create an Etsy Account

The first thing to do is create an Etsy account. Head to Etsy.com/sell, next select “Get Started.” Now, you can create an account by entering an email address. You can also decide to register on the website with your Apple, Facebook, or Google account. Next, you can set a password and review the terms and conditions. Then, you will have a new Etsy account.

If you have ever created an account on Etsy, you only need to log in. Also, keep in mind that registering on Etsy is free, and you do not need to pay for registration.

Create a Shop

Now that you are done creating an account, there is a gray circle serving as your profile at the top right corner. Click on it, and you will see a drop-down menu. On the drop-down menu, click on “Sell on Etsy.” Once the “Sell on Etsy” page is done loading, click on the “Open Your Etsy Shop” button

Enter Your Shop Preferences

Next, you will be prompted to set your shop preferences. These are basic things like your preferred language, shop country, shop currency, and whether you are selling full-time or part-time. Once you are done, click “Save and continue” to proceed to the next page.

Name Your Shop

Choose a name for your shop. You need to be creative about this, and there are simple rules to follow. The character’s length is 20 or less, and being creative ensures it is not a name that has been registered on Etsy. No spaces allowed, just letters and numbers.

Next, you can check whether it is available with the “check availability” button. If you are struggling with finding a perfect name, Etsy always offers tips on how to choose a name. Once you are done, click “Save and continue.”

Create Your Listing

Now, you can start adding items to your shop. Creating your listing requires that you do all these:

  • Add Product Photos: You need to add product photos for more visibility. Etsy allows you to add up to 10 product photos. Also, if you need to show certain details that won’t be visible in the photos, you can upload a video.
  • Listing Details: This is the description of your listing. You need to include the product name, detailed description of the product, maker, and product date. Other details you will need to add here include product category, materials used, and tags. It is also important to choose whether it is a digital or physical product.
  • Inventory and Pricing: Information to enter in this section includes the product’s price, sales tax, quantity, and SKU number. You can also specify if there are variations like colors, materials, and sizes. If there is personalization, you can set it “on”; if not, set it off. For the shipping information, include processing time, shipping price, where you ship to, and whether you do international shipping. You also need to add item weight and size (when packed) to calculate the shipping price.

Enter Your Payment Settings

Under the payment setting, you will disclose your tax filing status by choosing whether you are an individual, sole proprietorship, or a registered legal entity. As an individual or sole proprietor, you will enter information like full name, country, date of birth, phone number, address, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN).

As a legal entity, you will enter the name of the entity, address, business registration number, state, and employer identification number (EIN).

Set Your Billing Details

There are 3 types of fees you will pay on Etsy: listing fees, transaction fees, and payment processing fees. You will need to input your credit card details to pay for these fees. These include your credit card number, name on the card, CCV, and expiration date. You can select auto-billing for Etsy to bill your card automatically or can decide to pay manually each time the fee is due.

Open Your Shop

After setting your billing details, you can click the “open your shop” button. Now your shop is open, you can share the shop link with your friends, family, and potential customers.

Set Up Your Shop Policies

To avoid unnecessary issues with sellers, ensure you set up the policy section of your shop. Plus, it will save you from answering questions back and forth. Some of the things in the policy section can include shipping policies, payment options, processing time, returns, and exchange policies.

Conclusion

Now that your Etsy shop is ready, you can start selling. Etsy is a perfect place to spotlight your goods; while there are many sellers, always keep in mind that you are different. You only need to follow these steps meticulously to get your shop operating, and you can expect to make your goods visible to customers. Etsy marketplace is waiting for you!
